History of the Greater Baltimore Ministers' Wives and Ministers' Widows Fellowship

The Greater Baltimore Ministers' Wives and Ministers' Widows Fellowship comes under the umbrella of the International Association of Ministers' Wives and Ministers' Widows Incorporated. The IAMWMW was founded in 1941 by Dr. Elizabeth Coles Bouey of Richmond, Virginia. Guided by the hand of  God, Dr. Bouey issued a call to ministers' wives and widows from various denominations for the purpose of uniting unto one Christian fellowship for greater and more effective service in kingdom building. The International Association of Ministers' Wives and Ministers' Widows now includes members in over thirty states, the Intercontinental region, and Africa.

In the year 2000, talks began to get underway about a merger of two ministers' wives and widows organizations; The Baptist Ministers' Wives and Ministers' Widows of Baltimore and Vicinity, and The Interdenominational Ministers' Wives and Ministers' Widows of Baltimore & Vicinity. Being led in the wisdom and ways of God, both organizations understood the call to unite and develop a new and mutual vision. Through subsequent meetings and a season of prayer, the vision to merge was to become a reality. Yes, this approach to the continued journey of both organizations was deemed a more excellent way!

As the Baptist Ministers' Wives and Ministers' Widows of Baltimore and Vicinity, and The Interdenominational Ministers' Wives and Ministers'Widows of Baltimore and Vicinity progressed in this merger, it was the consensus that the two respective serving presidents; Sister Janet Freeman (BMWMW of Baltimore and Vicinity) and Sister Sylvia Teal (IMWMW of Baltimore and Vicinity) would complete their terms before the official merger took place at the International Conference. The smile of God prevailed. State President, Dr. Lelia Althea Fancher was the Advocate-Encourager. Under the guidance of the mighty hand of the Lord, the Baptist and Interdenominational organizations officially became The Greater Baltimore Ministers' Wives and Ministers' Widows Fellowship, Inc., and was chartered in June 2001 at the International Conference.

This organization is the local affiliate of the Baltimore area for the Sate of Maryland, the Northeast Region, and the International Association of Ministers' Wives and Ministers' Widows, Inc.

Since the time of the merger, we have moved forward with Visionary leadership, Vitality in the membership, and Victory in fellowship and service. The merger has proven to be a blessing and God still has The Greater Baltimore Ministers' Wives and Ministers' Widows Fellowship, Inc. on the move in The More Excellent Way!
